The fustanella, a traditional Albanian garment, was used in Albanian territories before Ottoman rule, as depicted on a 13th century pottery fragment and mentioned in a 14th century document. Albanian Tosk's, who wore the fustanella, migrated to Greece and southern Italy in the late Byzantine and early Ottoman periods, bringing their customs, language, and clothing with them. In the 19th century the usage of the fustanella stretched through all Albanian inhabited lands, and it had become the ethnic costume for the Albanian men.
